Sashiko Boro Bookmarks
Come gather with friends or enjoy a little solo creative time in a truly inspiring setting!
Sashiko is a traditional Japanese stitching and embroidery technique that translates to "little stabs," while boro refers to the tattered, heavily patched, and repeatedly mended textiles that result from the continuous use of those stitches over time. In today's class, we will make a boro-style bookmark using simple stitching in basic sashiko patterns. All materials and tools will be provided, including a variety of fabrics for you to choose from. Feel free to bring your own as well.
Beginners are welcome. It is helpful to know how to thread a needle or make a new friend who can help. Instructions, ideas, and creative brainstorming will be provided for a variety of skill levels. Above all, we will have fun stretching our imagination and transforming scraps into a beautiful bookmark for you to take home.
Your instructor today is Miranda Caroligne Burns, author of Reconstructing Clothes for Dummies, San Francisco boutique owner, and current artist at Art Presence Art Center in Jacksonville, Oregon.
Class is $20 per person (all materials included)
